Ariana~2~Africa :  The 626 Project

~~NEWS~~

As time is getting closer, I thought I would update you on what I'm currently doing to prepare for my trip!

2/6/2013 -
I got my new passport pictures taken.  I'm so excited!!  This makes it so real now.  Mom has filled out all the paperwork and is going to book my flight soon!  She also ordered me a passport holder that goes around my neck so I can keep all my documents "safe" and close.  Hmmm...now what to wear?  :-)

3/12/2013-
Well, my ticket to Tanzania has been purchased!!  I"M GOING TO AFRICA!!!   It's surreal.  I still have a lot of stuff to get done - shots (yuck!!), my visa, and the appropriate clothing.  I can't believe it.  Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!  One major hurdle is over!!

You KNOW I really want to go to Africa because I got my shots today.  :-(  I hate shots!  Now, I just need to pick up my malaria and typhoid medicine.  Dr. Frechette is awesome!  He really goes over everything you need to know about traveling to another country.  I didn't know that swimming in fresh water could be so hazardous!!  Yup.  No swimming for me!  And while I've always wanted a Hippopotamus for Christmas, I do NOT want to make it angry.

Thank you to everyone who continues to donate.  While my tickets and tuition are paid for - I still need to buy a few things for my trip.  If you are a group that would like a presentation of my Africa trip on my return for a Girl Scout / Boy Scout / Some other non-profit organization - I would be HAPPY to do that!!  Just let me know.

About Ariana

Ariana is a 16 year old girl who has been a Girl Scout since she was 5.  The idea of community service is not something she does in order to get recognition or something that "looks good on a college application"...it's a part of who she is.  She recognized at an early age that there were people who needed help and she loved to help out in any way possible.

Her Mission

Ariana started thinking about what else she could do to help others.  One day, she was watching TV and saw kids who joined groups like the Peace Corps and she looked at me and said, "Mom, I want to go to Africa and work with the children there".  Now, most parents would look at their kid and say "Oh honey, that's sweet".  But I know my daughter!  When she gets her mind set on something - it's all out til it's done!

So, she started doing online research for groups that she could go with to Africa.  After looking over quite a few different ones - Global Leadership Adventures was the group she chose.

She is planning on going to Tanzania for 21 days this summer! (She wants to go to Ghana the summer of 2014)

Now, we are NOT rich people so there is no way I could simply say "Yes dear...here's a check!"...nope.  Not gonna happen.  But Ariana didn't ask!  She said, "Mom, can you help me get a website together and work on fundraising?"  Yes...that I CAN do!!

So here we are!

The 626 Project

What, you may ask, is the 626 Project?  Well, I decided to create something "catchy" but simple!
Ariana = 6 letters
Africa = 6 letters
We want to send Ariana 2 Africa
And there you have it!  The 626 Project!  Ariana2Africa!

Ok...stop rolling your eyes!  What did you expect from me!
